West round-up: Felinfoel made to battle

FELINFOEL remain on course for the Division Two West title, but they were made to fight for their lives by third-placed Carmarthen Athletic for an 11-10 victory.

The win keeps them two points ahead of nearest rivals Lougher, who raced in five tries for a 34-3 bonus-point win against Pontyberem, who themselves remain just above the relegation fight.

Elsewhere, the bottom two clubs, Nantymoel and Tumble, fought out a thrilling 22-22 draw. The sides scored three tries a piece and even a generous period of injury-time could not split them which maintains Tumble’s three-point advantage over their hosts.

Kidwelly suffered a surprise 23-15 defeat at Cwmavon where they were outscored by four tries to nil and Penclawdd had too much for Gorseinon, who they edged past 22-18.

Cardigan scored four tries to beat visiting Aberystwyth 26-10 and in doing so moved level on points with them in third position in Division Three West.

Second-placed Llanbydder were also winners at Haverfordwest where they recorded a 12-6 triumph, but they remain nine points adrift of leaders Ammanford, who won 24-13 at Lampeter.

In other games, there were home wins for Llanelli Wanderers over Laugharne, Newcastle Emlyn over Amman United and Pembroke Dock Quins over Cwmgors.
