Aberavon 22-7 Llandovery
LAST season, Llandovery won their semi-final at the neutral venue of Aberavon, but this time the holders were kicked out by the boot of Aberavon fly-half Jamie Davies, writes Howard Evans.
“I am sad to go out,” said Llandovery coach Iestyn Thomas. “We threw two good try-scoring chances away and the bounce of the ball and decisions did not go our way today.”
Aberavon backs coach Nicky Lloyd said, “There were lots of effort, but we won without really playing that well.”
Davies was on form as he kicked six out of seven. His pair in the first half were followed by a third before flanker Simon Peters touched down and the conversion took it to 16-0.
Drovers’ full back Gareth James atoned for an earlier miss with a good try that Gareth Morgan converted, but Davies landed two more goals to clinch the tie.
Aberavon were best served by skipper Ian Moore and their front row, while injury-hit Llandovery had a good makeshift scrum-half in Richard Cuniffe and their tackling was splendid throughout.
