Win strengthens promotion hopes

LOUGHOR maintained their interest in promotion from Division Two (West) with a 34-3 win over Pontyberem.

They scored five tries through wingers Jason Howells and Damian Williams, centre Rory Saunders, second row Mark O’Kelly and flanker Steve Raikes, while outside half Ben Davies kicked three conversions and a penalty. Winger Mike Savro slotted a penalty for the visitors.

Felinfoel are still top with a 100 per cent record, squeezing past third-placed Carmarthen Athletic by 11-10 thanks to a try from prop Daniel Evans and two penalties by fly half Jason Davies.

Aberystwyth travelled down the coast to Cardigan in Division Three (West) but lost 26-10 as the home team ran in tries by Carwyn Thomas (2), Mike Diggle and Guto Crompton, plus three conversions by skipper Colin Davies.

Tries by prop Dyfrig Jones and wing Rhys Bowen, one converted by Barry Thomas, helped Llanybydder squeeze home 12-6 at Haverfordwest. Mike Venables kicked two penalties for the hosts.

At the other end of the table, Pembroke Dock Quins beat Cwmgors 19-13 with two penalty tries, a try from Kevin Bratcher and two conversions by Dean Lawrence. Jordan Davies crossed for Cwmgors and Richard Gregg contributed with a conversion and two penalties.

With the top three teams losing in Division Four (West), Tenby United moved closer with their 52-5 slamming of Tycroes, with tries from Sam Smith (2), Gavin Brace (2), Mike Georgiou, Scott Payne, Paul Luger and Mark Heywood. Tom Lewis converted six.

Leaders Morriston lost 19-17 at home to Crymych, despite tries from Mike Pompa, Liam Davies and Steve Evans The visitors replied through Steffan Phillips, Carwyn Jones and a penalty try alongside two conversions from Jones.

Pembroke beat Pontarddulais 20-5 with tries from Geraint Jackson, Huw Day and Dai Beynon as Lewis Davies booted five points.

Burry Port moved clear at the head of Division Five (West) with a 39-8 win over Fishguard, including six tries. Tom Price added nine points.
