Newport overwhelm lowly Llanharan

Newport 59-17 Llanharan

STRUGGLING Welsh Premiership home side Newport simply had too much power for opponents struggling a division below them in Saturday’s Konica Minolta Cup fourth round Rodney Parade clash.

Their superior strength was all too apparent in the scrums where they demolished their rivals and set up three of their nine tries.

Llanharan began well and pressured Newport for the opening 10 minutes, once held on the line. But after 10 minutes Newport drove Llanharan’s scrum back 10 metres and No.8 Andy Coombes picked up to score and the floodgates opened.

Llanharan got consolation tries from Greg Jones, Gary Williams and Dorian Thomas.
