UNBEATEN Bedlinog took advantage of promotion rivals St Peter’s rest day and stormed to the top of division three south-east by squeezing out a narrow 10-9 victory at lowly Tonyrefail
Ryan Jayne ran in the only try of the match for Bedlinog and Huw Jones kicked five very valuable points. Richard Baker slotted over three penalties for the hosts, who were unlucky not to get a result as they dominated 70 per cent of the game.
Tylorstown leapt into second place by edging out third-placed Gilfach Goch 13-10. Leon Hemmings crossed and Julian Price added eight points with the boot – and his last minute penalty won the hotly-contested affair.
In division three south-west, Nantyfyllon put on a championship display and picked up a valuable bonus point as they routed Vardre 47-0. Adrian Lewis, Rhodri Thomas and Daniel Isherwood all ran in a brace of tries and Ryan Turner also crossed. Nathan Healey added 12 points with the boot.
Second-placed BP won 21-10 at Tonna, who are in danger of being relegated for the second successive season.
In division four south-east, Llandaff North shrugged off last week’s shock defeat at Barry and bounced back in style, amassing 47 points without reply against Taffs Well.
Centre Ryan Jones was the hero of the hour as he notched up 26 points, running in two tries, and landing five conversions and two penalties.
Barry, who were 13 points adrift at the bottom, recorded their second victory in a week by winning 20-18 at Cilfynydd.
Second-placed Aberdare remain hot on the heels of the leaders after a comfortable 20-0 victory at Llantwit Major.
Gavin Hek added to his season’s considerable tally with a try and five points with the boot, and Matthew Smith and James Furey also crossed.
In division four south-west, the leading pair Bryncoch and Brynamman could be bouncing back to division three as they enjoyed convincing wins.
