Williams in shock return to Wales squad

MARTYN Williams has made a shock return to the Wales squad for the Six Nations - going back on his retirement announced just after the World Cup.

In a sensational twist Warren Gatland has successfully persuaded the Cardiff Blues flanker to come back for one last hurrah.

Williams' decision remedies a real lack of options at openside flanker, but the fact he has done a U-turn is a major surprise.

The 32-year-old had been adamant that he would not go back on his decision to quit the Test scene.

But it's understood Williams was contacted by Gatland last Thursday and talked back into the fold.

He will now be expected to start against England in the number seven jersey in the Six Nations opener against England at Twickenham on February 2.
