NEWPORT Gwent Dragons flanker Joe Bearman has been named as the Magners League player of the month for December and January.
The award finishes off an impressive and eventful period for the Dragons flanker, whose consistent performances included man-of-the-match displays against the Llanelli Scarlets and Glasgow, although he was sent off against the Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park on Boxing Day for fighting with Paul Tito.
“It’s great to receive this recognition for myself and the Dragons team,” said the 28-year-old. “It’s been a tough season with highs and lows but we’ve entered the New Year with a positive start.”
Bearman is in the Dragons’ line-up for their meaningless Heineken Cup clash against Perpignan at Rodney Parade on Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons are strengthened by the return of skipper Colin Charvis, prop Rhys Thomas, scrum-half Andy Williams and hooker Steve Jones. Kevin Morgan is also hoping to be fit.
Perpignan include former Rodney Parade favourite Percy Montgomery and England prop Perry Freshwater.
Meanwhile coach Paul Turner has revealed he is close to signing a new deal after talks with the board.
