Nigel Davies up for Scarlets job

Llanelli Scarlets chief Stuart Gallacher confirmed Nigel Davies is on a shortlist of coaches being considered to take over at the region.

Gallacher said he hopes to appoint the region's new coach "as soon as possible", with an announcement expected next week.

He confirmed Davies, 43, was one of a handful of names in the running following the departure of Phil Davies last week.

Llanelli-born Davies was only appointed as the Welsh Rugby Union's head of rugby development four months ago after an unsuccessful spell as assistant Wales coach to Gareth Jenkins

Gallacher also confirmed former Wales coach Jenkins could return to the region , but not in the capacity of team coach.
