King signs new Scarlets deal

THE Scarlets have received a timely boost with the news that centre Regan King has signed a new contract, ending speculation of a move to big rivals the Ospreys.

There was a fear that King would follow scum-half Dwayne Peel out of Stradey Park.

With Stephen Jones still pondering his future at the club, the news of King signing a new deal comes as a morale booster for the Scarlets.

King, who has represented New Zealand on one occasion, has been with the Stradey outfit since August 2005. The new contract will run up until July 2011.

He made an immediate impact on the Stradey fans by scoring on his debut against the Worcester Warriors. Since then King has gone to represent the region 81 times, scoring 26 tries in the process.

Scarlets Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher is delighted by the news.

“Regan has committed his future to the Scarlets by signing a contract for three years,” said Gallacher. “Regan is an integral part of the squad.”

Gallacher went on to say that re-signing Regan “shows how determined we are to build for the future.”

Regan, who is a firm favourite with club supporters, was keen to reaffirm his commitment to the region.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at the Scarlets,” he said.

“With a new state-of-the-art stadium just around the corner, I wanted to be part of what I am sure will be a very successful future for the region.”
