Aberavon 32-22 Ebbw Vale
DESPITE three tries from full-back Andrew McLaughlin, Ebbw Vale could not stop a second-half onslaught that sent Aberavon to the semi-finals.
The Wizards took the lead when a good round of passing saw wing Richard Carter go clear and Jamie Davies converted.
The Steelmen replied as McLaughlin just got over in the corner, but Davies struck back with a penalty goal.
In response, McLaughlin produced his second try following a tapped penalty, but the conversion and two penalty attempts failed.
Vale’s third goal kicker, centre Aaron Bramwell, also missed with his attempt, but seconds later team-mate Andrew Bevan cut through and Chris Anderson converted for a 17-10 interval lead.
After the break centre Paul Bamsey pulled off an interception and ran from his own half to touch down, Davies converting to level again.
But Aberavon regained the lead with a long-range penalty from Jamie Davies and then the pack took command. After a Chris Wells charge, wing Steve Davies went over the line.
Jamie Davies failed with another long shot at goal but the Wizards were not to be denied. Chris Morgans sent wing Carter racing away and he scored an amazing try inches from the dead-ball line, converted by Davies.
Ebbw Vale were not finished and McLaughlin notched up his third touchdown, but Aberavon held on to gain the victory.
