Blues confirm Ceri Sweeney signing

THE Cardiff Blues have confirmed the signing of Welsh international Ceri Sweeney from Newport-Gwent Dragons.

Sweeney, who has won 35 caps, is joining the Arms Park outfit on a two-year deal, having decided to stay this side of the bridge after also being targeted by Bristol.

He will battle it out for the fly-half spot next season with Nicky Robinson and young Dai Flanagan, while providing an additional option at inside centre.

The Blues today announced that former Welsh Under-21 international Flanagan, who had been linked with a possible move to the Dragons, has signed a contract extension.

Welcoming the signings, Blues chief executive Bob Norster said: "Ceri is a quality player who has been a consistent performer for the sides he has represented and carries significant experience following his involvement so far with the Wales national team.

"Young Dai has also shown impressive levels of maturity and continues to make progress in the senior game.

"We are always looking to strengthen our squad whenever possible and are confident both these young Welsh players will improve our future play-making options."
