A MANIC Street Preachers song led to Emma Jenkins of Cardiff starting her own business.
Emma, 32, was at the end of her tether with frustration at her catering job. She desperately wanted the chance to produce imaginative catering to a market she felt sure was out there, but she didn't get the chance in the coffee shop where she worked and hated the run-of-the-mill food she was told to produce.
"I decided I'd had enough."
She said, "I was completely bored at work and remember listening to Manic Street Preachers singing the lines 'tired of being tired, sick of being sick, bored of being bored'. That really summed up my life.
"I was having a moan to a friend and he said, 'Well, get out and go it alone!' "
He got the ball rolling and printed some business cards for Emma who set up EJ Catering.
She said, "Within six months I was working for myself and feeling immensely proud of how the business was expanding. I now have my own premises, employ several people and have a growing list of customers who like the creative food we produce.
"I get motivated just by my passion for cooking and having the freedom to experiment with menus - something I could never have done in my last job."
