Teenager dies after being struck by train

A TEENAGE girl has died after being struck by a train near Bridgend.
The girl, believed to have been aged in her mid-teens, was hit by a Swansea-bound train on the level crossing at Pencoed Station, Bridgend, at 9.50pm yesterday.
The train involved had been the 7.15pm First Great Western service from London Paddington.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “It was travelling at about 85mph.
“The driver saw someone on the crossing, sounded his horn and applied the emergency breaks but was unable to stop.
“The train, which had about 50 passengers on board, came to a halt just outside Pencoed Station.
“The body was removed from the track, which was handed back to Network Rail at 11.51pm.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious but an investigation is underway.
