Bank Holiday finally sees summer in the air

A FEW clouds couldn’t dampen bank holiday fun for families across South Wales.

Temperatures hit a balmy 20C yesterday, despite some overcast skies, as people hit the parks and beaches, indulged in ice creams and dusted off their barbecues.

A spokeswoman for Simon Tucker’s surf school in Rest Bay, Porthcawl, said the beach had been crammed with families hoping to catch a few rays of sunshine.

He said: “The beach has been really busy.”

In Caerphilly, the siege engines at the castle were fired every hour to delight hundreds of visitors. “We’ve been really busy,” said castle worker Julian Thomas. Other events across the region included a free afternoon of street entertainment that had crowds flocking to Cardiff Bay’s waterfront, and bird-watching events in Bedford Park, Cefn Cribwr, and the Kenfig Nature Reserve.

Forecasters predicted that the best of the weather is set to come later this week.

Sunshine was expected to break through today with temperatures up to 22C and between 21C and 24C tomorrow with the chance of a few showers on Thursday.
