Cancer doctor takes office of High Sheriff

A NEW High Sheriff of South Glamorgan has been inaugurated.

Brian Rees, of Llandaff, Cardiff, took his declaration at a ceremony in front of the Lord Lieutenant, Recorder of Cardiff Judge Nicholas Cooke, former High Sheriffs, family and friends.

Mr Rees is a general surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and from 2000 to 2006 was the lead cancer clinician.

He established a unit for the teaching of skills in surgery and laparoscopic techniques which is used by many disciplines within the medical world.

The unit, called the Welsh Institute of Minimal Access Therapy has a place among the best training units in the country.

In 2000, he was awarded an OBE for services to medicine.
