FIREFIGHTERS rescued a dog trapped in a car which had rolled into the lake at Cyfarthfa Park, Merthyr Tydfil.
Rambo, an 11-year-old Staffordshire Bull terrier, was trapped in his owner’s car when it rolled down an embankment and into the lake at around 11.30pm last night. A fire crew arrived to see just the roof of the car visible above the water.
“The lake isn’t that deep, possibly four feet at its deepest,” said watch manager Steve Dowd.
“The owner was panicking a bit and wanted to go in for the dog himself.”
He said the park ranger had come out of Cyfarthfa Castle to see his vehicle disappearing into the lake.
Firefighters donned dry suits to rescue the pet.
“The dog was clinging to the headrest with his head up to the roof – there was just enough space for him,” said the watch manager.
