BLUEBIRDS stars kicked off the Echo’s roadshow in Cardiff city centre, with fans queuing up to meet Steve Thompson and Glenn Loovens.
Striker Thompson said it was a great way to say thanks to the Echo-reading fans for their support at the crucial stage of the season.
He said: “It’s always nice to meet the fans and it’s an exciting time for the club with the new stadium on its way and the FA Cup semi-final.
“I’m sure we won’t have any trouble selling all our tickets for the FA Cup.
“It would be good to make a bit of history and be the first Welsh club to win at the new Wembley.
“Hopefully now we’ll get another big crowd down at Ninian Park for the derby against Bristol City on Saturday.”
Fans queued up at the roadshow stand outside St John’s Church in Cardiff city centre. Those who bought a copy of the Echo received a free goody bag containing:
A souvenir poster
A child’s ticket for a Bluebirds home game
A bottle of Brecon Carreg mineral water
A Welsh cake
A pen
A Cardiff City and Echo window sticker and programme subject to availability.
Carl Jones, 34, an ambassador season-ticket holder from Newport who works in Cardiff, said: “There’s a feel- good factor about the club at the moment and it’s brilliant to be able to come down and meet the players. I’m going to come down on my lunch break every day and get my shirt signed by as many as possible.”
Garyn Jones, 10 and his mother Claire, from Trehafod, were over the moon to meet the players. They said the whole family would be going to Wembley.
“I am very excited about going to Wembley and hopefully I’ll get front-row seats!” said Garyn.
Pamela McGowan from Canton took her three-year-old grandson Oliver to the roadshow. She said, “It’s great of the club and the Echo to do something like this. My grandson’s only three but he knows all the Cardiff songs.”
Pensioners Gwyneth and John Maxwell, from Llanishen, said: “We’ve come to get free poster signed for our granddaughter Emily Jones who trains with Cardiff’s ladies team.”
The roadshow is being held near St John’s Church between 10am and 4pm daily until Friday. Bluebirds players will be visiting between 2pm and 3pm.
