Members-only club in ‘little Chelsea’ wins its expansion bid

A MEMBERS-ONLY club, which enjoys the support of former rugby international Jonathan Davies, has won its application to open late and branch out into a restaurant.

Davies joined forces with television presenter Angharad Mair and DIY SOS front man Nick Knowles to back the Cameo Club and Bistro’s bid.

Permission has been granted for the club in Pontcanna, Cardiff, to join with an adjacent restaurant and open until 2.30am Mondays to Saturdays and midnight on Sundays.

Cameo club member and former Wales captain Jonathan Davies said: “It is a wonderful idea to combine the private club aspect with a quality bistro, and to be able to enjoy both under one roof suits me down to the ground.”

Presenter Nick Knowles added: “The rise in my public profile over the years has meant it is increasingly more difficult for me to enjoy an evening out without being hassled. The Cameo Club provides me with that safe haven.”

Among the letters and a petition of support were ones objecting to the area becoming too busy.

Resident Sue Evans said: “Our lives are being made a misery since Pontcanna became the ‘little Chelsea’ of Wales.”
