Get set for a race to raise charity cash

RUNNERS are preparing to get on their marks and see the sights of the city in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

The popular event, organised by Barnardo’s Cymru for the fifth year, attracts thousands of people.

Competitors will start outside City Hall on Sunday, October 19, and will finish in Bute Park, Cardiff.

“The Cardiff Half Marathon is always a popular event with serious club runners and those who want to do their bit for charity,” said event organiser Jean Summerhayes, of children’s charity Barnardo’s Cymru.

“Everyone is so supportive of the race which also attracts hundreds of spectators and is a great day.”

Organised by the charity with Cardiff council and the South Wales Echo, the Cardiff Half Marathon is open to anyone aged 17 and over on the day of the race.

It will start at 9am, with the wheelchair race at 8.50am.

“It is not just a race, but an event which raises thousands of pounds for charities,” said Jean.

“We are proud of the fact so much money has been raised for so many good causes both at home and abroad, and we hope this year’s event will bring even more money for worthy charities.

“It is a fun event but it has a serious mission to raise much-needed funds for organisations like Barnardo’s Cymru.

“The most important thing to remember for anyone thinking of signing up to run is to ensure they are well prepared, and that means to start training as early as possible.

“Potential runners can follow training tips on the Cardiff Half Marathon website.”
