County crime tally shows big decrease

A SOUTH Wales county is a safer place to live, according to new figures.

Police say crime rates in Caerphilly are dropping thanks to the ongoing work of the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership.

In 2005, the organisation set a three-year target to reduce crime rates by 18 per cent. The latest figures show crime has been cut by 22.8 per cent.

Chief Superintendent and chairman of the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership, Alun Thomas, said: “We aren’t complacent with this and are working to drive down figures further.”
