MP launches battle to save rural post offices

A DELEGATION from Wales headed to Downing Street in a bid to save rural post offices earmarked for closure.

Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, led the delegation of local councillors and campaigners to Prime Minister Gordon Brown yesterday in a fight to save offices in his constituency.

Mr Williams said, “Post offices are one of the most important services in our community and we cannot afford to lose them.

“We have received more than 2,500 responses from constituents calling for local post offices to be saved.

“The overwhelming support we have received from all parts of Brecon and Radnorshire has been fantastic and reinforces how important local people consider these services to be.”

Post offices in the area proposed for closure include Llanfaes and Pendre in Brecon, Ridgebourne and Tremont Road in Llandrindod Wells, Evenjobb, near Presteigne, and Cwmgiedd, near Ystradgynlais.
