Demand on parking by Plaid Cymru

PLAID councillors were today calling on Cardiff council to create 70 per cent resident-only parking in congested areas.

The party has put a motion before the full council meeting tomorrow calling on the executive to develop the policy and other congestion-busting measures.

Riverside councillor Gwenllian Lansdown said: “Parking pressures are a major issue in areas like Riverside.

“The Liberal Democrat executive should develop a policy that would permit 70 per cent resident-only parking in areas of parking pressure.

“They should increase the number of traffic wardens to curb illegal parking as other councils have done.”

She was backed by Leanne Wood AM who called on the city council to show more support for environmental schemes such as the Pont-y-Werin over the river Ely between Cardiff and Penarth.

The other measures called for by Plaid include a city wide “smart” bike scheme a car pooling scheme.
