Friends’ drinking binge ends in court

TWO friends had been drinking for hours before violence flared in a town centre and put them in the dock at Cardiff Crown Court.

Gary Davenport, 25, and Jamie Beecham, 20, both of Fordd yr Eglwys, North Cornelly, admitted being involved in an affray.

Prosecutor Julian Greenwood said: “CCTV cameras show Beecham suddenly striking a person to the ground then both of them kicking him before running off.”

Davenport, who claimed he had been drinking since 10am the previous day, was then involved in a public order breach with police officers.

Giving them both suspended six-month sentences, Judge Isobel Parry told Davenport it was “a wonder he could stand”.
