GLAMORGAN cricketer Graham Reynolds has died at the age of 70
GRAHAM Reynolds was a talented sporting all-rounder, mixing county cricket and league football with his teaching commitments.
He made his debut for Glamorgan 2nd XI in 1962 and he quickly impressed as a forceful left-handed batsman and right-arm bowler.
These talents on the cricket field also saw him make his 1st XI debut for Glamorgan against Worcestershire at Stourbridge in 1969 in the newly-instigated John Player Sunday League.
This was the first of 11 one-day appearances for Glamorgan, as well as two first-class games – against the Jamaican tourists at Swansea in 1970, and the away County Championship match with Northamptonshire in 1971.
He continued to play regularly for the county’s 2nd XI until 1977, and in 1972 he led them to the final of the Warwick Pool Under-25 competition at Edgbaston, where despite his astute leadership, and opening both the batting and the bowling, Glamorgan side lost to Middlesex.
Graham, who worked as a teacher in Newport, was also a well-known face in footballing circles, playing football for Newport County.
When he retired from teaching, Graham maintained his involvement in sport, scouting for Spurs.
