Mum's hope on murder's anniversary

THE mother of murdered private eye Daniel Morgan says she is “on pins” about new evidence as the 21st anniversary of his death approaches.

An insider close to the Scotland Yard inquiry has insisted “everything is very positive” and that “significant progress” was still being made in the case.

No-one has ever been charged with the killing of the Singapore-born 37-year-old, who it is believed was butchered because he was about to expose crooked police involved in a conspiracy to flood Britain with cocaine.

And heartbroken mum Isobel Hulsman, who lives in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, said: “I feel dreadful, and who would not?

“It’s very tense and I am on pins, waiting and hoping. I want it to be right this time.”

She added: “You can bet your bottom dollar the world will know when something happens.”

Mr Morgan, who was brought up in Llanfrechfa, Monmouthshire, was left with a cheap Chinese-made Diamond brand axe in his skull when he was killed in the car park of the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham, south London on March 10, 1987. His blood-soaked body was found next to his BMW car.

The source said: “Even though we have got the 21st anniversary coming up and we are still waiting to hear from the Crown Prosecution Service we are still uncovering significant evidence.

“We have recently identified another valuable piece of evidence.”

Three men were arrested in connection with the murder in 2006 and remain on bail.

The family of Mr Morgan will mark the March 10 anniversary tomorrow.
