MPS ran a mile yesterday – and it wasn’t from questions about their expenses.
More than 50 donned their jogging shoes to take part in a fundraising Westminster Mile in support of Sport Relief. And there was a measure of Welsh success.
First past the post was regular jogger Conservative MP David Davies (Monmouth), followed close behind by Labour’s Chris Bryant (Rhondda) and Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie (Dunfermline and Fife West).
The race around St James’s Park in central London was held ahead of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday March 16 to raise money for vulnerable people in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe said, “Sport has the power to change lives and it was great to see my fellow MPs joining me and really getting behind Sport Relief.
“I hope the rest of the nation rise to the challenge and sign up for a mile too – it’s a great cause and can help people get active.”
