National chef of Wales crowned

A CHEF who has spent the whole of his 25-year career in a Powys town was crowned National Chef of Wales yesterday.

Neil Roberts, aged 43, from Newtown in Mid Wales carried off a £2,000 cash prize after winning the cook-off final at the Welsh International Culinary Championships at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, Rhos on Sea.

Roberts, who was trained at Coleg Powys in Newtown and works at The Waggon and Horses, used Conway mussels and oysters in his menu.
