DRUGS have been taken off the streets of the capital after further police raids for Operation Maximum Impact.
Police swooped on two houses in the east of Cardiff yesterday.
One home in Pearl Street, Splott, contained 200 cannabis plants, potentially worth £100,000. A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of growing the drug.
Pregnant mum- of-one Claire Lordan, 24, who lives nearby, said she was shocked when police began the raid.
She said: “First I saw the police taking out a couple of plants, then it was bags and bags full of stuff, and lighting as well.
“Sometimes we could smell weed in the street but I just thought it might be students. I certainly didn’t realise there was this going on. It’s mad.”
More drugs were found in a house in Glanmuir Road, Tremorfa.
Five small bags of a substance, believed to be cocaine, 40 tablets thought to be diazepam, and cannabis were recovered.
A 59-year-old woman, her 22-year-old son and another 22-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs. Roath Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Jeff Martin said: “We had a very successful day. We have been able to carry out these raids thanks to help from members of the public.”
