Prescoed absconder caught
A MAN jailed for causing death by dangerous driving has been re-arrested by police six weeks after he absconded from Prescoed prison.
James Robert Birch, 25, was taken into police custody having been arrested in Swansea on Monday night. He then appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with being unlawfully at large.
Birch was one of three men to disappear from the prison in Usk, Monmouthshire on December 18. One has handed himself in while another is still on the run.
Birch, from Bromsgrove, was convicted of death by dangerous driving in June 2004.
