TWO motorists were cut out of their vehicles by firefighters after a car crash.
The two drivers were taken by ambulance to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, after the accident on Cardiff Road, Dinas Powys, at around 4.45pm yesterday.
Fire crews from Penarth, Ely, Barry and Malpas attended, using hydraulic rescue equipment to free the drivers from the wrecked cars, a blue Mazda Xedos and silver Mitsubishi estate car.
The ambulance service sent two emergency response cars, two ambulances emergency doctors and an on call paramedic officer.
Police closed the road for around two hours while they investigated the scene of the accident.
Insp Paul McCarthy, from South Wales Police, said: “Drivers were trapped in both vehicles so we needed to close the road to allow the emergency services to rescue them.
“It did appear in the early stages that one of the drivers had suffered a broken arm and that the second driver had potentially serious injuries.
“Both were taken to hospital and the road was closed for a further period of time. It has now been reopened to the public.”
