Salute marks TA’s centenary

THE Territorial Army is marking its centenary with a succession of celebrations throughout the year.

The TA’s 100th birthday will be celebrated across the nation during 2008 with two special events in Cardiff.

The city will play host to a large parade outside City Hall on Saturday, June 14 – the Queen’s official birthday. This will be combined with a Royal Salute – field guns with army displays set up in the Cardiff Castle’s moat. Another high-profile event will be a dinner at the St David’s Hotel, Cardiff, Bay, on May 21.

The year will mark the achievements of the TA, from its beginnings as Lord Haldane’s Territorial Force to today, when the TA fights alongside the regular Army. Events across the rest of the United Kingdom include a service at St Paul’s Cathedral, a spectacular TA pageant parade with 6,000 guests in June, and the TA100 Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in July.
