A MOTORIST who drove at speeds up to 90mph in "atrocious conditions" and seriously injured another motorist after a head-on crash has been jailed.
Adrian Williams, 36, a marketing manager from Pontardawe in Swansea was jailed for nine months after a trial at Swansea Crown Court.
He lost control of his Honda Civic at high speed on the A4109 near Crynant on February 23 and crashed into an oncoming Volkswagon Passat.
The driver of the Passat, Colin Cherry, 45, became trapped in his car and had to be released by the emergency services. He suffered life-changing injuries and will need physiotherapy for another two years.
Williams – a home improvements employee, earning up to £1,200 a week – admitted dangerous driving.
Craig Jones, prosecuting, said Williams came up behind a BMW which was travelling at close to the 60mph speed limit. He overtook at between 80-90 mph and as he approached a bend at high speed he lost control and hit Mr Cherry.
Judge Gerald Price told Williams there was excessive speed in atrocious weather conditions. Williams was banned from driving for three years and ordered to take a test before regaining his licence.
