Youth charged over baby threat burglary

A teenager will appear in court today in connection with a burglary in which a kitchen knife was held to a baby’s neck, police said last night.

Threats were made to the four-week-old girl and her mother, who was forced to hand over cash to two youths during the incident in the Grangetown area of Cardiff.

American dollars and £20 in cash was taken by youths who broke into the flat in Clive Street at about 6.30pm on Sunday. One of them stayed with the woman and her daughter while the other kicked in the door of another flat, stealing a plasma screen television and £2,500 in cash.

South Wales Police said tonight that a 17-year-old from Grangetown, who had previously been arrested in connection with the incident, had been re-arrested and charged with burglary. He will appear at Cardiff Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

An 18-year-old man from the Ely area of the city who was also originally arrested was released on bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cardiff Central CID on 029 2054 7420 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
