Council considers alcohol control zones

A WELSH local authority is considering introducing county-wide restrictions on drinking in public to crack down on alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour.

Seven community councils in Wrexham have written to the local authority requesting their areas be declared alcohol control zones.

But council officials say the authority should consider introducing similar restrictions in every community council ward of the borough.

It is believed this approach would prevent drunken troublemakers simply being moved on from one part of the county to another.

Wrexham’s corporate governance and policy scrutiny committee will meet on Wednesday to consider the proposals.
