£4bn pledge for Wales

The coalition Assembly Government will get an extra £4.3 billion over the next three years, it was announced today.

The Treasury’s review handed Wales a 2.4% increase in spending, compared to a UK average of 2.1%.

It means the Assembly’s annual budget will grow from £7 billion at the time of devolution in 1999 to almost £16 billion in 2010/11.

Welsh Secretary Peter Hain said: "This is a good deal for Wales.

"It shows how this Labour Government in Westminster is working together with the Assembly in Cardiff Bay to deliver for the people of Wales."
