Weeding out untidy streets

A BLITZ on pesky weeds will be carried out across the Caerphilly borough in the next six months.

The weed clampdown is part of the council’s campaign to improve the appearance of streets in communities.

A clearance schedule has been drawn up and council chiefs have restructured services in order to improve efficiency and place resources where they are most needed.

The grounds maintenance section of Caerphilly County Borough Council and the authority’s cleansing department have been working closely together to get the job done.

Weed-covered black spots are now being tackled with an enhanced weed spraying programme and the results are already on show.

A Caerphilly council spokesman said: “The authority has recently decided to merge the cleansing and grounds maintenance functions in order to enhance street scene service delivery.

“An example of this enhancement has been the new approach to weed control where significant progress has been made across the county borough in addressing areas of concern within local communities.

“The council will evaluate the effectiveness of this new approach and provide a further report on its success and plans for the control of weeds in the future.”
