THE ninth annual Avril’s Walk will set off from New Tredegar later this month.
Fundraisers from all over the Rhymney Valley will turn out to show their support on Sunday, April 20 for Velindre Hospital and to remember walk founder Avril Williams.
Grandmother Avril, of Gorse Terrace, New Tredegar, started the walk in 2000 after spending many years battling cancer herself.
She sadly died in 2005 but had helped raised around £80,000 for the Active Support Unit campaign at Velindre.
More than 100 supporters turned out in fancy dress in 2007 to continue what Avril began. School children, Avril’s family and friends and people from the community all did their bit for the hospital.
This year walkers will make their way on a five-mile course through New Tredegar, on to Aberbargoed and back again.
If you would like to take part in this year’s Avril’s Walk, fundraisers will leave New Tredegar Rugby Club at 11am on April 20.
Sponsor forms for the event can be obtained from Avril’s husband Conrad at 21 Gorse Terrace or by calling 02920 196861.
