KEEP a close eye on the futures of these youngsters – they could soon be working on a cure for the common cold.
Children from primary schools in the Rhymney Valley have been celebrating their success in science through a national awards scheme.
The British Association for the Advancement of Science has been handing out certificates to budding scientists who have shown a particular interest or aptitude for the subject. A ceremony was held by the Mid Glamorgan Education Business Partnership at Caerphilly Leisure Centre to celebrate the achievements.
The partnership’s primary schools officer Michelle Common said: “We encourage schools to run these CREST science clubs and it is through these that the children carry out a range of investigations to qualify for their Star Awards. To give recognition to the efforts of the children we organise prestigious awards ceremonies, and the latest were held during National Science Week 2008.”
Each school received a £75 science club grant and a certificate. Sponsors for the awards were Welsh Water, GE Healthcare, Harp International, South Wales Institute of Engineers (SWIE) and Careers Wales.
