WHEN Keith Davies told his loved ones he would run the London Marathon before he hit the big 50, even they thought 26 miles was a step too far.
But this did not deter the father-of-two from Bargoed, and he’s already running 25 miles a week in preparation for April run.
Keith, aged 49, has chosen Cancer Research Wales as his charity to raise money for, and looks at the marathon simply as his next challenge.
The aircraft engineer at GE is no stranger to gruelling challenges and has won the Three Peaks Challenge on three occasions.
He said: “I have always been a keen runner and completing the marathon has been my goal.
“Training at the moment is quite difficult, but the generosity of the people who are supporting me and the thought that my few hours of pain on the day will help to fund research to help generations really spurs me on.”
Maggie Hughes, charity director at Cancer Research Wales, said: “Thanks to the commitment of people like Keith, Cancer Research Wales can continue to provide funding for vital and pioneering research into cancer and its treatments.
“We are very grateful for the generous amount that is raised by our fundraisers. All of the money that he and others raise remains in Wales, where it goes towards the funding of vital research into the disease and groundbreaking treatments.”
Keith is one of only five Golden Bond runners for the charity and has pledged to donate all of his sponsorship to them.
