Pupils spring into seasonal celebrations

THERE’S a buzz of spring at a school in the Rhymney Valley – and pupils are celebrating the most colourful season of the year.

With just over a week until the clocks change, Upper Rhymney Primary School paid tribute to springtime with a week of events for the whole community.

Children from three to 11-years-old dressed up in fairy wings, danced to the beat of a drum tutor, and crafted woodland head-dresses ahead of a spectacular parade that even the unpredictable weather couldn’t halt.

After starting the parade in the hall because of the rain, the clouds eventually cleared and everyone was able to take their dancing and chanting around the school hall.

Headteacher Mel Lewis said more than 30 parents and members of the public took part in two days of open workshops aimed at bringing the community together – members of nearby Ael y Bryn Community Centre even joined the parade dressed as clowns.

He added: “We’d love to celebrate like this every season. There was such a lovely, carnival atmosphere.”
