A MOTHER was assaulted by her daughter after an argument about money got out of hand.
Amy Lane, aged 27, punched and screamed at her mother, before grabbing her by the arm, during an argument over money.
Lane, of Gelli Road, Gelli, was conditionally discharged for 12 months by Rhondda Magistrates’ Court after she admitted assaulting by beating her mother, Jacqueline Mumford .
In a statement read out in court Mrs Mumford said: “If I don’t take a stand now, I’m afraid of what might happen next.”
Prosecuting Kelly Smith said Lane went to her mother’s house in Pentre to collect some money owed to her.
But her mother deducted money that she was owed before handing over the remainder.
Ms Smith said: “Lane started screaming at her mother and punched her. Mrs Mumford tried to protect herself and Lane grabbed her arm causing pain.”
On hearing the commotion her son, Mark, intervened.
He pulled his sister off his mother and put her on the sofa.
Ms Smith said: “Amy’s small children were screaming and Amy was screaming. She went after Mark and tried to grab his hands. But he picked her up and put her out of the room.”
When police arrived Lane was shouting and pointing her finger at the living-room.
Ms Smith said Lane and her mother have had a “volatile” relationship since she was put into care when she was younger.
She also said Lane and her brother “do not get on.”
Defending solicitor Monique McEvett said Lane has had significant difficulties over the past 12 months.
She suffered domestic violence and her husband was given a custodial sentence.
Ms McEvett said Lane was the sole carer of her two young children and one of them is extremely ill.
There was an argument about the amount of money she received from her mother and Ms McEvett said: “In the heat of the moment she lost her temper. There has been a volatile relationship between mother and daughter and instead of walking away, she lost control.”
Ms McEvett said Lane has shown genuine remorse and regret and stressed that this was a “one off incident”.
She said Lane and her mother have since addressed the issues dividing them.
Passing sentence presiding magistrate Binky Thomas said: “Sort yourself out and look after your children. You have had a sad and trying time, but you must not lose control.”
