Peeling paint shows anti-social service
RUSTY gates, rotting wood and peeling paint – is this really what you would expect of a council-run building used by people with mental health problems?
Yet it is exactly the state of the eyesore Ty Gwyn (Comfort House) building on Church Street. Barely recognisable as a working building, the single-storey hut looks as though it’s about to fall down any day.
More worryingly, it’s used as a base for the provision of a day service to customers with mental health needs.
Some activities are provided from the building but, in the main, customers use this as a base and access other community services.
A council spokeswoman said: “The current state of the building, while not ideal, meets the short-term requirements of the service while the future direction is being determined.
“In line with our other buildings, health and safety issues are assessed through a regular monitoring process and actions taken to address as needed.
“An assessment was undertaken in January and there are no actions which remain unaddressed.”
