COMMUNITY groups in Merthyr Tydfil have had their wishes granted by a housing developer and the Merthyr Express.
George Wimpey South Wales ran a competition for local groups to contact them and tell the company why they were deserving of a £300 cheque.
After receiving a flood of requests from hopeful organisations, George Wimpey and the Express chose two lucky winners.
Gellideg Girls and Boys Mini Sports Club were the first lucky recipients. The club was the first in the area to start a disabled and special needs children’s football club and will put their prize towards a new kit.
The second winners were Georgetown Girls Football Team who will spend their money on kit and equipment for the under-12 side.
Sara Taylor, sales and marketing director for George Wimpey South Wales, said: “We received a number of requests for worthwhile causes which made the decision difficult to make.
“The money we are providing to these two chosen groups will help improve their facilities and give the children more opportunities.”
