Pupils’ towering ambitions

BUILD your own tower – that’s the challenge that was thrown down to pupils from Aberdare Boys School.

And they did just that at a major week-long event that promoted career opportunities for young people in the construction industry.

A Design for Life takes the form of a team challenge event for schools in the Heads of the Valleys area.

It formed part of this year’s National Construction Week and was held at the complex and hotel being built by Kier Western at Rhydycar, Merthyr Tydfil.

It was organised by the Welsh Assembly Government in collaboration with Construction Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Construction.

Student Levi Edwards said: “The day was excellent – we all found out a lot about the construction industry in a fun and practical way.

“ I didn’t realise there were so many different jobs available. I found it interesting to learn what projects are going on in the area – it will certainly make me think more about my career choices.”
