Ladies are tickled pink

MOUNTAIN Ash Day Centre were tickled pink when their weekly dancing session turned into a parade to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer.

Dressed in pink, for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the ladies and gentlemen danced like rose petals in the breeze to the beat of the music.

Kay Maiden, Sectary said: “We’ve all dressed in pink for our dance session this week, we have pink cakes and decorations and have raised £75 for charity.”

Dorothy Simmonds, Treasurer said: “We have dancing here every Friday afternoon.

The ladies love it, it gives them a chance to socialise with people in their age group and it keeps them fit.

“One of our regulars Betty Jones from Abercynon is 96 and she’s here every week enjoying herself.

“We have prize bingo on Tuesdays 2.30 to 3.30pm and yoga on Mondays 10.30 to 12 noon.

“The doctors in the area are pushing us to get the arm chair aerobic classes up and running, to help those not so able to keep their minds and bodies active.

“The members, Coun Pauline Jarman and myself would like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful kitchen staff.

“They made all the delicious pink treats plus they decorated the hall beautifully in pink balloons and ribbon.”

Eirwen Bull, from Brynifor, Mountain Ash, works as a member of the centres kitchen staff. She said: “Its so nice to see the centre being put to good use. We like to do these themed days for the ladies and gentlemen because it gives them something different to look at and have a laugh about.

“We have a Hallowe’en theme coming up next Friday and we’ll be putting up spooky decorations for that and we are even looking into making black cakes.”

If you are aged over 50 and live in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area, come along to the day centre, it’s open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 6pm and hosts a wide range of activities.
