HOMEOWNERS in the Cynon Valley are facing the second highest cost of owning a home in Wales, just £31 a month behind Cardiff.

Research carried out by the Woolwich Building Society, which examined the finances of hundreds of families across Wales revealed some shocking statistics.

The highest average monthly mortgage repayments were being made in Cardiff North £674, followed by the Cynon Valley £643 and Aberavon £593.

Blaenau Gwent were paying the least at £427, a massive £216 less a month than Cynon.

The research also showed that the nation's average mortgage repayments had rocketed by more than double since 2002, sharply rising from £201 to £465.
