A SPLASHING time was had by many, as Aberdare Pool reopened its doors.
A fun-filled day of events saw almost 700 people flock to Aberdare Swimming Pool on Saturday, October 27, to celebrate its reopening following a major £1.2m renovation scheme.
The work at Aberdare forms part of a £5.6m programme of works Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is delivering in the next three years in order to provide modern and high quality leisure facilities for residents across the county borough.
With no entrance fee on the day, crowds made a splash within the first four hours at the 33 metre pool.
It now boasts a refurbished gymnasium, changing rooms with family changing areas, new pool tiling and eco-friendly measures and is fully compliant with the Disability Discriminations Act.
Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Graham Thomas, accompanied by fellow Cabinet Members and councillors, officially unveiled a plaque to commemorate the reopening leisure.
He told the Leader “The refurbishment of Aberdare Pool has proved to be a massive undertaking but we are overjoyed with the results and it was obvious on the opening day that residents were equally as delighted with the major improvements.
“I was astounded at the sight of so many hundreds of people queuing to use the pool which illustrates how much of an asset this facility is for the people of Aberdare and its surrounding communities.”
