A PIECE of top sporting silverware has made its way to the borough.
The Engage Super League trophy, awarded to the winners of rugby league’s elite club competition, was shown to some of Porthcawl Comprehensive School’s rugby-playing pupils.
The visit took place in the run-up to the Super League’s “Millennium Magic” weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
Three games a day will be played at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
Craig Spence, the RFL’s communications manager, said: “We wanted Welsh youngsters to see what all the fuss was about and what the Super League players from the 12 member clubs are striving to win this season.
“All the games at the Millennium Stadium will count towards the league table, and the top six clubs at the end of the regular season will go into a play-off in a bid to win the magnificent trophy that went the Porthcawl Comprehensive School.”
The trophy is currently held by Leeds Rhinos, who beat St Helens 33-6 in the 2007 Grand Final at Old Trafford last October.
