A MAN has been cleared of rape but convicted of sexually assaulting a single mother after he and a friend were invited into her home for a drink.
Nigel Morgan, aged 37, was cleared of further charges of sexual assault and burglary by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court.
The court heard Morgan had gone to the house with a friend on July 28 last year. When he was left alone with his victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, he sat down on the sofa next to her and touched her breasts. She managed to struggle free and make a phone call to a male friend. Morgan was then kicked out of the house.
In addition to the sexual assault, he had been accused of raping the women’s neighbour later that evening after climbing up a drainpipe and entering through an upstairs window.
He was also alleged to have stolen her mobile phone, cigarettes and cash from her handbag. But the jury cleared him of rape, burglary and a further sexual assault.
Morgan, of Maerdy Park, Pencoed, was bailed pending sentence on May 13.
