A WELL-USED community hall could be in line for improvements to make it more accessible for young and old alike.
Yr Aelwyd in Cwmfelin celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with a complete refurbishment.
MP Huw Irranca-Davies is now helping the committee make a bid for better access to the hall.
At present, it is reached via a flight of steps down from the main road, or by another set of steps upwards from Jenkins Terrace.
The committee would like to have the lower steps converted into a pathway, extended by a concrete ramp, for wheelchair access and prams.
Mr Irranca-Davies MP, who visited Yr Aelwyd to see the situation for himself, said: "This community hall is a cracking local venue for many people, but everyone should be able to use it regardless of disability. “They've got my full support in seeking funding to build upon improvements already made by the energetic management committee."
Maesteg Citizen’s Advice Bureau already has an outreach in the hall, which is also the venue for PACT meetings.
The clerk to Llangynwyd Community Council has a room there and Yr Aelwyd School of Needlework runs classes in patchwork, quilting and dressmaking.
There are also regular coffee mornings on the first Tuesday of the month. Anyone wishing to use the hall should contact co-ordinator, Anne Wilkes, on 737323.
